Mustang Shelby GT500 Oil Change (2020+)

A Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 oil change is probably the most important piece of maintenance you could do. With many owners reporting metal or debris found in oil filters, it is crucial it is done on time if not early. It has an under tray blocking the oil filter but fortunately it has a access panel so the whole tray does not need to be removed. Tools Needed:

  • 13mm socket and ratchet or wrench for the oil pan drain plug
  • 27mm socket and ratchet for the oil filter housing
  • Funnel
  • Jack and jack stands to raise the front end
  • Clean shop rags
  • Drain pan with 12 or more quart capacity

2020+ Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Oil Change Procedure:

  • Make sure engine is warmed up to operating temperature and car is parked in a level area
  • Raise front end using the jack and jack stands
  • Remove engine oil fill cap
  • Place drain pan under the oil drain plug
  • Remove the drain plug using the 13mm socket and ratchet (or wrench) and let oil drain into pan
  • Reinstall drain plug when it has fully drained (19lb ft drain plug torque spec)
  • Lower the oil filter housing access panel
  • Move drain pan under oil filter housing and loosen it using the 27mm socket and ratchet (some oil may drain when O rings seal is broken)
  • Remove oil filter housing and replace oil filter and both oil filter O rings
  • Lubricate both oil filter O rings with fresh engine oil and reinstall housing (torque spec is 18 lb ft)
  • Reaffix access panel
  • Fill engine with 11.5 quarts of fresh engine oil using the funnel
  • Lower the front end from the jack stands
  • Start engine and let it run to circulate oil and build oil pressure then shut it back down
  • Check engine oil level on dip stick and adjust level if necessary
