Silverado 2500 Oil Change (2020+ 6.6L Gas)

Tools Needed:

  • 15mm socket and ratchet or a 15mm wrench for engine oil pan drain plug
  • Oil filter removal tool (claw style)
  • Funnel to fill engine oil
  • Oil drain pan (8+ quart capacity)
  • Clean shop rags to check the dip stick or clean a spill if needed

2020+ Silverado 2500 6.6L Gas Oil Change Procedure:

  • Park truck in a safe and level spot
  • Make sure engine is up to operating temperature
  • Check engine oil level on dip stick to verify no prior issues
  • Remove engine oil cap
  • Remove engine oil pan drain plug using the 15mm socket or wrench and let oil drain into the oil drain pan
  • Reinstall and tighten engine oil pan drain plug once engine oil has fully drained
  • Remove engine oil filter using the claw style oil filter removal tool and ratchet
  • Lubricate new engine oil filter O ring and prime oil filter with some of the fresh engine oil
  • Install new engine oil filter to block
  • Remove engine oil drain pan out from under truck
  • Fill engine with remainder of 8 quarts of fresh engine oil using the funnel
  • Reinstall engine oil fill cap
  • Start truck, let engine oil pressure build and shut engine back down
  • Check engine oil level on dip stick and adjust if necessary
  • Reset dash maintenance reminder when oil change is complete
