WRX STI Oil Change (2015+)

Performing your own Subaru WRX STI oil change is an easy way to stay on top of maintenance and keep your engine running at its peak. Do it your self and you can be sure it was done right. This guide is specific to 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Subaru STI model years equipped with the 2.5L engine. For a Subaru WRX specific oil change guide, visit this page.

Tools Needed:

  • 17mm wrench or socket and ratchet
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Oil fill funnel
  • Drain pan with at least 5 qt capacity
  • Ramps or a jack with jack stands
  • Clean rag

2015+ Subaru WRX STI Oil Change Procedure:

  • Warm engine to operating temp
  • Check engine oil level on dipstick to verify no issues
  • Raise front end using ramps or a jack with jack stands
  • Remove the oil pan drain plug using the 17mm wrench and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
  • Remove oil filter using the oil filter wrench
  • Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
  • Lubricate new oil filter O ring and install
  • Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
  • Fill engine with 4.5 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
  • Start engine to build oil pressure (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down)
  • Lower the front end
  • Check engine oil with the car level & top off if necessary
