Ford F150 Oil Change (2011 – 2017 5.0L)

Perform you own Ford F150 oil change and you can be sure it was done right. This guide is specifically for 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 F150 model years when equipped with the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine. For other Ford oil change guides, visit this page.

Tools Needed:

  • 15mm socket and ratchet or 15mm wrench
  • Oil filter wrench for tight oil filters
  • Engine oil drain pan (over 7.7 qt capacity)
  • Oil fill funnel
  • Rag to clean dipstick

2011 – 2017 5.0L Ford F150 Oil Change Procedure:

  • Park truck on a level surface
  • Warm engine to operating temp
  • Check engine oil level on dipstick to verify no issues
  • Loosen oil pan drain plug using the 15mm socket with the ratchet (or 15mm wrench) and let oil drain into pan
  • Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug once all engine oil has drained
  • Move drain pan under the oil filter and remove using the oil filter wrench if it is too tight to remove by hand
  • Clean engine oil filter mounting surface
  • Lubricate engine oil filter o ring using fresh engine oil
  • Install and tighten engine oil filter to block by hand
  • Clean excess spilled oil from oil pan and below oil filter – it often pools at crossmember below
  • Fill engine with 7 quarts of new engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
  • Start engine to let engine oil pressure build to accurately check oil level
  • Check engine oil level & add engine oil to until oil reads to the full mark on the dip stick
