Ram Promaster Oil Change

Perform your own Ram Promaster oil change to save money and keep your van running when you need it, not sitting in a dealership parking lot waiting for maintenance. This article is specific to the 2014 – 2021 model year Ram Promaster equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar engine. For other Ram specific maintenance guides click here.

Tools Needed:

  • 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
  • 24mm or 15/16″ shallow socket
  • Ratchet for above sockets
  • O ring pick
  • Oil drain pan with at least 6 quart capacity
  • Oil fill funnel
  • Clean rag

Ram Promaster Oil Change (3.6L) Procedure:

  • Warm engine to operating temp and make sure vehicle is parked in a level, safe spot
  • Check engine oil on dipstick to verify no issues
  • Remove engine oil fill cap
  • Loosen engine oil drain plug and let oil drain into pan using the 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
  • Remove oil filter using the 24mm or 15/16″ socket and ratchet
  • With the oil filter cap removed, remove and replace housing o ring and filter
  • Lubricate oil filter cap o ring and reinstall oil filter cap to housing
  • Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
  • Fill with 5.6 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
  • Start engine to let oil circulate and pressure build. Shut engine down back down after
  • Check engine oil level on dip stick, add more engine oil if it is found to be low
