Ram Promaster Oil Change

Perform your own Ram Promaster oil change to save money and keep your van running when you need it, not sitting in a dealership parking lot waiting for maintenance. This article is specific to the 2014 – 2021 model year Ram Promaster equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar engine. For other Ram specific maintenance guides click here.

Tools Needed:

13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
24mm or 15/16″ shallow socket
Ratchet for above sockets
O ring pick
Oil drain pan with at least 6 quart capacity
Oil fill funnel
Clean rag

5.6 quarts of 5W20 engine oil
Oil Filter – Wix WL10010 or equivalent filter

Ram Promaster Oil Change (3.6L) Procedure:

Warm engine to operating temp and make sure vehicle is parked in a level, safe spot
Check engine oil on dipstick to verify no issues
Remove engine oil fill cap
Loosen engine oil drain plug and let oil drain into pan using the 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
Remove oil filter using the 24mm or 15/16″ socket and ratchet
With the oil filter cap removed, remove and replace housing o ring and filter
Lubricate oil filter cap o ring and reinstall oil filter cap to housing
Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
Fill with 5.6 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
Start engine to let oil circulate and pressure build. Shut engine down back down after
Check engine oil level on dip stick, add more engine oil if it is found to be low
