Ford 7.3 Gas Oil Change

Keep your truck out of the dealer and perform your own Ford 7.3 gas oil change. The newly released 2020+ 7.3 Godzilla engine is a great upgrade in many ways, and ease of maintenance is no exception. With a conventional spin on oil filter, aluminum oil pan, and an easy to access oil drain plug, there is no reason to have some one else do your oil change. Tools Needed:

  • 15mm wrench or socket and ratchet
  • Oil filter pliers or wrench
  • 8 quart capacity engine oil drain pan
  • Fresh engine oil funnel
  • Clean shop towels or rag

Ford 7.3 Gas Oil Change Procedure:

  • Make sure the truck’s parking spot is level
  • Warm engine oil up to operating temp
  • Verify engine oil level on dip stick and remove engine oil fill cap
  • Locate the engine oil drain plug at the rear of the oil pan
  • Place the oil drain pan under and remove the drain plug using the 15mm wrench or socket / ratchet
  • Let the engine oil fully drain from drain pan
  • Remove engine oil filter using the oil filter pliers or wrench if it is too tight to remove by hand (it is located on the right side of the oil pan)
  • Prefill the oil filter with some fresh engine oil and lubricate the engine oil filter o ring
  • Install oil filter to oil filter housing by hand
  • Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug using the 15mm wrench or socket / ratchet
  • Fill with 7 quarts of engine oil using oil fill funnel and reinstall engine oil cap
  • Start engine to let oil pressure build and then shut it back down
  • Verify the correct oil level on the dipstick – adjust if necessary by adding engine oil if it is low
