3.0 Duramax Oil Change (2019+)

Perform your own 3.0 Duramax Oil Change by following this guide. The standard oil change interval is 7500 miles. Introduced in the 2019 model year, the inline six 3.0L Duramax was offered by GM to offer a diesel option in they’re lighter duty full size trucks, along with getting great mpg, the maintenance is also simple. This article is specific to the 2019, 2020, and 2021 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, and the GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL trucks equipped with the 3.0L Duramax Diesel engine. Tools Needed:

  • 15mm wrench or socket and ratchet
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Engine oil fill Funnel
  • Drain pan with at least 7 quart capacity
  • Clean rags

3.0 Duramax Oil Change Procedure:

  • Park truck on a level surface
  • Warm engine up to operating temp
  • Remove engine oil fill cap
  • Place the drain pan under the engine oil pan drain plug and oil filter
  • Loosen the oil drain plug using the 15mm wrench or socket and let it drain into the drain pan
  • Using the oil filter wrench, remove the engine oil filter
  • Clean the drain plug and engine oil filter mounting surfaces
  • Reinstall and tightened engine oil pan drain plug
  • Lubricate new engine oil filter o ring with fresh engine oil
  • Install new engine oil filter to block
  • Fill engine with 7 quarts of fresh engine oil using the funnel
  • Reinstall engine oil fill cap
  • Start engine to build oil pressure and let the engine oil circulate. Shut engine back down
  • Check engine oil level on dip stick and add if needed until it is to the full mark
  • Reset the engine oil maintenance minder by following the prompts on the center display
