Ford 6.8L V10 Oil Change

Perform your own Ford 6.8l V10 oil change and you can be sure it was done right. The job is simple enough that anyone can do it in their driveway. This guide is specific to 1999 – 2019 Ford trucks equipped with the 6.8L V10 Triton engine which is found in early F250, F350, F450, F550 and chassis’s for RV’s and other Ford F53 chassis. Tools Needed:

  • 16mm socket and ratchet or wrench
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Drain pan with over 7 quart capacity
  • Clean shop towels
  • Funnel

  • 7 quart capacity of 5W20 or 5W30 engine oil depending on year – verify correct viscosity in owners manual or located on engine oil fill cap (typically 1999 – 2015 is 5W20 and 2016 – 2019 is 5W30)
  • Motorcraft FL820S or aftermarket equivalent

Ford 6.8L V10 Oil Change Procedure:

  • Make sure truck is located in a safe and level spot
  • Remove engine oil fill cap
  • Using the 16mm socket or wrench, remove the engine oil drain plug and let it drain into the drain pan
  • When fully drained, reinstall and tighten the drain plug
  • Remove engine oil filter using the oil filter wrench if needed
  • Lubricate engine oil filter o ring with fresh engine oil and install new filter to the block
  • Fill engine with 6.5 quarts of fresh engine oil using the funnel
  • Start engine
  • Let engine run and build oil pressure
  • Shut engine back down and verify no leaks or issues
  • Check engine oil level on dip stick and top off with more engine oil if needed
