Ford Ranger Oil Change (2019+)
There has been many articles on how difficult a 2019+ 2.3L Ecoboost Ford Ranger oil change is, but in my opinion it is on par with many modern vehicles. Do it at home and you’ll know it was done right. This article is specific to the 2019, 2020, and 2021 Ford Ranger when equipped with the 2.3L Ecoboost engine. Tools and Supplies Needed:
- 15mm wrench
- 15mm socket and torque wrench
- Oil filter wrench or removal tool
- Funnel
- Oil Drain pan with at least 6.2 qt capacity
- Clean rag

- 7 quarts 5W30 engine oil (6.2 qt capacity) Manufacturer recommends Motorcraft synthetic blend
- Oil filter – Motorcraft FL910S
Ford Ranger Oil Change Procedure:
- Park on level surface and warm truck up to operating temp
- Check engine oil level and condition on dipstick to verify no prior issues
- If equipped with it, remove skid plate directly beneath engine oil drain plug
- Loosen engine oil pan drain plug using the 15mm wrench and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
- Remove oil filter access panel in drivers side front wheel well using a screw driver or clip removal tool (located to the rear of the shock)
- Remove engine oil filter
- Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
- Reinstall and tighten engine oil drain plug using 15mm wrench (Engine oil drain plug torque is 20 lb ft if a torque wrench is available)
- Fill engine with 5.5 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Check engine oil level & top off with engine oil if necessary
- Reinstall oil filter access panel and skid plate if equipped when complete
