Honda CRV Oil Change (2012 – 2016)

A 2012 – 2016 2.4L Honda CRV oil change is a simple way to save money and stay on top of your car’s service schedule. Use this guide for the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 Honda CRV model years when equipped with the 2.4L engine. For a 2017+ Honda CRV (1.5L engine) oil change, follow this alternate guide.

Tools Needed:

  • 17mm wrench
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Funnel for engine oil
  • Oil Drain pan with at least 5 quart capacity
  • Clean rag

Honda CRV Oil Change Procedure:

  • Warm engine to operating temp
  • Check engine oil level on dipstick to verify no issues
  • Remove oil pan drain plug using the 17mm wrench and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
  • If available, remove and replace drain plug washer
  • Remove oil filter (use oil filter wrench if necessary)
  • Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
  • Lubricate new oil filter O ring with fresh engine oil and install
  • Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
  • Fill engine with 4 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
  • Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
  • Check engine oil level with dip stick & top off if necessary
  • Reset your maintenance minder dash light
