Jeep Wrangler Oil Change – 2018+ JL 3.6L

A JL 3.6L Jeep Wrangler oil change costs less if you do it your self, no need to pay for the dealer to do it. Follow your service schedule to stay on top of maintenance. If equipped with the 3.6L, the 2019+ Jeep Gladiator oil change procedure should be the same. If your Jeep Wrangler is equipped with the 2.0L engine, we also have this guide to visit. This guide is specific to the 2019, 2020, and 2021 Jeep Wrangler model years.

Tools and Supplies Needed:

  • 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
  • 24mm or 15/16″ socket
  • Ratchet with a minimum of 6″ extension for above socket
  • O ring pick
  • Engine oil drain pan with at least 5 quart capacity
  • Oil fill funnel
  • Clean rag

JL 3.6L Jeep Wrangler Oil Change Procedure:

  • Warm engine to operating temp
  • Check engine oil on dipstick to verify no issues
  • Remove oil pan drain plug and let oil drain into pan using the 13mm or 1/2″ wrench (or socket and ratchet)
  • Loosen oil filter cap using the 24mm or 15/16″ socket, extension and ratchet and remove cap and oil filter from housing
  • Remove and discard oil filter from cap
  • Remove and replace oil filter cap o ring
  • Lubricate oil filter cap o ring
  • Install oil filter into cap
  • Reinstall and tighten oil filter cap to housing on engine using the 24mm (or 15/16” socket) extension and ratchet
  • Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug – Torque spec is 20 ft lbs
  • Fill just under 5 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
  • Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
  • Check engine oil & top off if necessary
  • Reset the maintenance reminder
