Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Oil Change (2011+)

A 2011+ Ford 6.7L Powerstroke oil change is a simple way to save money and stay on top of your truck’s service schedule. This guide applies to F250, F350, F450, & F550 diesel trucks. To change the fuel filters in this truck, follow this guide.

Tools Needed:

  • 16mm wrench (2011 – 2012 used a plastic drain plug which needs a 3/8” square drive)
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Funnel for fresh engine oil
  • Oil Drain pan with at least 13 quart capacity
  • Clean rag

Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Oil Change Procedure:

  • Warm engine to operating temp
  • Check engine oil level on dipstick to verify no prior issues – If it is found to be low make sure to check oil level between oil change intervals in the future
  • Remove oil pan drain plug using the 16mm wrench (or 3/8” square drive if the truck is a 2011 – 2012 with a plastic drain plug) and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
  • Remove engine oil filter – use filter wrench if needed
  • Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
  • Prefill new oil filter with some of the fresh engine oil and install
  • Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
  • Fill engine with 12 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
  • Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
  • Check engine oil level & top off if necessary
