Odyssey Oil Change (Honda 2011 – 2017)

Save money by performing your own Honda Odyssey oil change. This guide will help you stay on top of your service schedule. It is specific to the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 model years equipped with the 3.5L engine. For a 2018+ Honda Odyssey oil change, follow this alternate guide.

Tools and Supplies Needed:

  • 17mm wrench or 17mm socket and ratchet
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Oil drain pan (5 quart capacity)
  • Long oil fill funnel
  • Clean rag
  • Wheel ramps or jack with jack stands

Honda Odyssey Oil Change Procedure:

  • Park vehicle on level surface
  • Warm engine to operating temp
  • Check engine oil level and condition on dipstick to verify no prior issues
  • Raise front end by driving on ramps or lift using jack and jack stands
  • Remove engine oil fill cap
  • Loosen engine oil pan drain plug using the 17mm wrench and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
  • Remove engine oil filter (use oil filter wrench if too tight to remove by hand)
  • Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
  • Lubricate new oil filter O ring and install to block
  • Reinstall and tighten engine oil drain plug
  • Fill engine with 4 quarts of new engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall engine oil fill cap
  • Start engine to let oil circulate and build oil pressure (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
  • Lower vehicle off ramps or jack stands
  • Check engine oil level with vehicle on level ground & top off with fresh engine oil if necessary
  • Reset your maintenance minder dash indicator
