Ram Cummins Oil Change – 2008 – 2020 6.7L
A 2007.5+ Ram 2500 & 3500 6.7L Cummins oil change is a simple way to save money and stay on top of your car’s service schedule. This guide should apply to all Cummins ISB 6.7L engine oil changes. If you need to change the fuel filters as well, follow this guide.
Tools and Supplies Needed:
- 3/8″ drive ratchet
- Oil filter pliers
- Oil filter cap (optional – but greatly reduces mess when removing the filter)
- Funnel for fresh engine oil
- Oil Drain pan with at least 12 quart capacity
- Clean rag

6.7L Ram Cummins Oil Change Procedure:
- Warm engine to operating temp
- Check engine oil level and condition on dipstick to verify no issues
- Remove the drain plug by inserting the 3/8″ drive into the drain plug and loosening
- Loosen the oil filter using the oil filter pliers accessing it through the right side wheel well as shown in the picture above
- Spin off the oil filter (if you have it thread in the optional oil filter cap, without this oil will spill out of the filter and make a mess)
- Tilt the top toward the access panel and pull it out through the wheel well (if you do not have a oil filter removal tool, oil will spill from filter)
- Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
- Lubricate new engine oil filter o ring
- Install new engine oil filter
- Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
- Fill engine with 11.5 quarts of new engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Check engine oil level & top off with new engine oil if necessary
When the oil change is complete, perform the engine oil life reset to accurately track engine oil life.
