Jeep EcoDiesel Oil Change (2020+)
Perform your own Jeep EcoDiesel oil change to stay on top of your scheduled maintenance. The standard service interval is to change the oil every 10,000 miles or when notified by the display. This article is specific to the 3.0L EcoDiesel engine found in the 2020 & 2021 model year Jeep Wrangler, Gladiator, and Grand Cherokee models. The oil change itself is very easy to do however there are some specifications to be sure to pay attention to. It is a cartridge style oil filter that has been updated from the previous generation EcoDiesel engines. The oil filter is now part of the cap and comes as an assembly, it takes a 27mm or 1/16” socket. Also, the engine oil it calls for is a European specific 5W40 full synthetic oil.
Tools and Supplies Needed:
- 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
- 27mm or 1 1/16″ socket
- Ratchet for above sockets
- a 12+” extension makes removing the oil filter cap much easier
- Engine oil drain pan with at least 9 quart capacity
- Funnel
- Clean rag

- Engine oil: 5W40 Full synthetic European spec oil – 8.5 qt capacity
- Engine oil filter: Mopar LF68507598AA
Jeep EcoDiesel Oil Change Procedure:
- Warm engine to operating temp
- Check engine oil level and condition on dipstick to check for any prior issues
- Remove engine oil fill cap
- Place drain pan under the engine oil pan drain plug
- Remove the oil drain plug using the 13mm wrench and let the oil fully drain
- Using the 27mm socket, extension and ratchet, remove the engine oil filter cap found on the drivers side of the engine block
- Lubricate oil filter cap o ring and clean out oil filter housing to make sure there is no debris from removal
- Install new oil filter cap and filter assembly to engine oil filter housing and tighten it using the 27mm socket, extension and ratchet (25NM torque spec as found on the cap)
- Fill with 8.5 quarts of engine oil using the funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Check engine oil level & add until it is found to be full on the dipstick
- Reset the maintenance reminder
