Honda Civic Oil Change (2016+)
A 2016+ Honda civic oil change is an easy way to save money and have the peace of mind that it was done right. The process is the same for the 1.5L and 2.0L engines with the only exception being different engine oil capacities, as listed below. For a guide specific to the Honda Civic Si, visit this post.
Tools Needed:
- 17mm wrench
- Filter wrench
- Oil fill funnel
- Drain pan with at least 5 qt capacity
- Ramps or a jack with jack stands
- Clean rag

- 0w20 engine oil – 1.5L requires 3.7 qts & 2.0L requires 4.4 qts
- Oil filter – Fram PH7317 or WIX 57356
2016+ Honda Civic Oil Change Procedure:
- Warm engine to operating temp
- Check engine oil on dipstick to verify no issues
- Raise front end using ramps or a jack with jack stands
- Loosen the oil pan drain plug using the 17mm wrench and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
- Remove oil filter (use oil filter wrench if necessary)
- Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
- Lubricate new oil filter O ring and install
- Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
- Fill engine with 3.5 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Check engine oil & top off if necessary
- Lower front end
- Reset your maintenance minder dash light
