Ford F150 3.3L Oil Change
With a conventional oil filter and an easy to access oil pan drain plug, the Ford F150 3.3L oil change is a simple task. The oil change interval is dictated by driving conditions and is displayed on the information display when it is due, it is typically between 7500 – 10000 miles. This article is specific to the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 Ford F-150 when equipped with the 3.3L V6 engine. The early models came with a plastic oil pan and drain plug which is removed and installed by hand, while the later models came with a more traditional aluminum oil pan and a threaded steel drain plug. Tools Needed:
- 15mm wrench (only for later models equipped with an aluminum drain pan)
- 8mm socket and ratchet
- Oil filter pliers
- Funnel
- Oil drain pan with at least 6.5 quart capacity
- Shop rags or towels

- Engine oil filter: Motorcraft FL500S or equivalent
- Engine oil: 5W20 engine oil (6.5 quart capacity)
2017+ Ford F150 3.3L Oil Change Procedure:
- Park truck in a level spot
- Warm engine up to operating temp
- Remove engine oil fill cap
- Remove rear lower engine cover below the engine oil drain plug using the 8mm socket and ratchet
- Place drain pan under the engine oil drain plug and remove using the 15mm wrench (if it has the steel drain plug) or by rotating counter clockwise while pulling it out (if it is a plastic drain plug)
- Let engine oil fully drain
- Reinstall and tighten engine oil drain plug
- Move engine oil drain pan below the engine oil filter (found on the drivers side front of the engine)
- Remove engine oil filter
- Lubricate new engine oil filter O ring and install
- Fill engine with 6.5 quarts of new engine oil using the funnel
- Reinstall engine oil fill cap
- Start engine and let the oil pressure build
- Shut engine back down
- Check engine oil level on dip stick and add more if needed
