Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Change (2016+ 3.6L)
Follow this guide for everything you need to know to complete a Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Change. This article is specific to 2016+ Grand Cherokees equipped with the 3.6L V6 engine. It comes with a canister style oil filter mounted on top of the engine under its cover access panel which keeps oil filter replacement clean and easy. Tools Needed:
- 13mm wrench or socket and ratchet
- 24mm socket
- Extension for 24mm socket
- Ratchet for above sockets
- Pick for oil filter O ring
- Oil drain pan with at least 6 qt capacity
- Funnel
- Shop towels or rags

- Engine oil – 5.9 quarts of 0W20
- Engine oil filter – Fram CH11665 or equivalent
Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Change Procedure:
- Make sure vehicle is parked in a level spot
- Start engine until it is up to operating temp and then shut it back down
- Check engine oil level on dip stick and verify it has no prior issues such as low engine oil
- Remove engine oil fill cap
- Open center top engine cover to access engine oil filter cap
- Using the 24mm socket, extension and ratchet, remove the engine oil fill cap
- Remove and replace engine oil filter element
- Remove and replace engine oil filter O ring
- Lubricate engine oil filter O ring
- Reinstall engine oil filter cap to housing
- Place drain pan under the engine oil pan drain plug
- Remove the engine oil pan drain plug using the 13mm wrench or socket and ratchet
- Let engine oil fully drain into pan
- Reinstall and tighten oil pan drain plug once complete
- Fill engine with 5.9 quarts of 0W20 engine oil using the funnel
- Reinstall engine oil fill cap
- Start engine, let oil pressure build and shut it back down
- Check engine oil level dipstick and adjust level if needed
