6.7 Powerstroke Fuel Filter Change: 2011 – 2016
Follow this guide to find everything needed for a 6.7 Powerstroke fuel filter change. The standard service interval is to change the fuel filters every 22,500 miles under standard driving conditions or when advised to by the display. This article is specific to 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 model year Ford F250, F350, F450, and F550 trucks equiped with the 6.7 diesel Powerstroke engine. - 32mm socket and ratchet
- Small pick for O ring
- Drain pan
- Shop rags

- Motorcraft fuel filter kit FD4615 or equivalent filter set
2011 – 2016 Ford 6.7 Powerstroke Fuel Filter Change Procedure:
- Park truck in a safe, level spot and be sure the ignition is in the OFF position
- Locate the fuel water separator housing under the cab behind the frame rail on the drivers side
- Place the drain pan under the fuel water separator drain and let it drain by turning it counter clockwise
- Use the 32mm socket and ratchet to loosen and remove the fuel water separator housing
- Remove the filter if it did not come down with the cap
- Remove and replace the fuel water separator housing O ring using the pick
- Lubricate the O ring
- Install new filter into the fuel water housing
- Close fuel water separator drain
- Install and tighten fuel water separator cap until it bottoms out – do not over tighten or it will break
- Locate the fuel filter in the drivers side of the engine bay
- Place a rag under the lines going to the filter
- Squeeze the gray clip on the fuel line and pull straight off the filter
- Release the green clip by pushing the tabs together and pulling the clip up – then pull the line off the filter
- Remove filter by turning it from its housing counter clockwise
- Install new fuel filter by turning it clockwise into the housing
- Reinstall line with gray clip by pushing it onto the filter – it will click when the clip is seated
- Reinstall the fuel line with the green clip by seating the line and pushing the clip down until the tabs snap into place
- Cycle the ignition key on and off 5 times until you hear the fuel pump cycle off
- Attempt to start engine – if it cranks but will not start, make sure you have no leaks and repeat the prior step of cycling the ignition on
