Subaru Crosstrek Oil Change (2018+)

Perform your own 2018+ Subaru Crosstrek oil change to save money and you can be sure it was done right. With the engine bay mounted oil filter, the oil change is simple and spills are minimized. This guide is specific to the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Subaru Crosstrek model years when equipped with the 2.0L H4 non hybrid engine. The oil change interval is between every 3000 to 7500 miles depending on how the car is driven, the information display will alert you before it is due. Tools Needed:

  • 14mm wrench or socket and ratchet
  • Torque wrench (optional)
  • Oil filter wrench (if the filter is too tight to do by hand)
  • Oil fill funnel
  • Drain pan with at least 5 qt capacity
  • Ramps or a jack with jack stands
  • Clean rag

2018+ Subaru Crosstrek Oil Change Procedure:

  • Warm engine to operating temp
  • Check engine oil on dipstick to verify no issues
  • Raise front end using ramps or a jack with jack stands
  • Loosen the engine oil pan drain plug using the 14mm wrench and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
  • Remove the engine oil filter (use oil filter wrench if necessary)
  • Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
  • Lubricate new oil filter O ring and install
  • Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug (drain plug torque is 31 ft/lbs)
  • Reinstall the lower engine cover the same way it was removed
  • Fill engine with 4.5 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
  • Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
  • Lower the front end by driving down the ramps or removing the jack stands
  • Check engine oil level with the car level & top off if necessary
