Ridgeline Oil Change (2017+ Honda)

A 2017+ Honda Ridgeline oil change is a simple way to save money and stay on top of your car’s service schedule. This guide is specific to the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 mode year Honda RIdgeline equipped with the 3.5l engine.

Tools and Supplies Needed:

  • 17mm wrench
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Funnel
  • Oil Drain pan with at least 6 quart capacity
  • Clean rag

2017+ Honda Ridgeline Oil Change Procedure:

  • Warm the engine up to operating temp to allow it to drain quicker and suspend contaminants
  • Check engine oil level on dipstick to verify no issues – if it is found to be low, make sure to check it periodically in the future to see if more is needed between services
  • Loosen engine oil pan drain plug using the 17mm wrench and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
  • Remove oil filter using the oil filter wrench if too tight to remove by hand
  • Clean engine oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
  • Lubricate the new engine oil filter O ring with fresh oil and install
  • Remove and replace engine oil drain plug crush washer (optional)
  • Reinstall and tighten engine oil pan drain plug – Torque is 29 lb ft if a torque wrench and socket is available
  • Fill engine with 5 quarts of new engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
  • Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down)
  • Check engine oil level & top off if necessary
  • Reset your maintenance minder
