Powerstroke Fuel Filter Change (2017+ 6.7L)

Follow this guide for a 6.7L Ford Powerstroke fuel filter change found in Super Duty F250, F350, F450 & F550 trucks. This is specific to the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 model year trucks. To perform an oil change on this truck, follow this guide.

Tools Needed:

  • 8mm socket and ratchet
  • Drain pan

2017+ Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel Fuel Filter Change Procedure:

  • Verify ignition is in the OFF position
  • Place the drain pan under the water in fuel separator filter housing found under the cab between the frame rails
  • Loosen the drain valve and let the fuel drain
  • When the fuel stops draining, retighten drain valve
  • Unplug water in separator connector
  • Remove 5 fuel filter housing mounting bolts using the 8mm socket and let the housing come down
  • Check and clean out any debris in the housing
  • Remove and replace filter element and housing seal
  • Reinstall water in fuel separator filter housing and plug in water in fuel sensor connector
  • Locate the fuel filter in the drivers side of the engine bay (it has 3 fuel lines going into it)
  • Remove all 3 fuel lines going to filter by sliding plastic clips over and pulling lines away from the filter one at a time
  • Loosen the filter from its housing by loosening it a 1/4 turn
  • Install new fuel filter and tighten into housing the same way it was removed
  • Reinstall all 3 fuel lines into filter and lock clips into place
  • Cycle the key to the ON position and leave it for 30 seconds while the fuel pump primes the fuel system
  • Turn the key to the OFF position, and the back on – repeat this cycle 3 times
  • Start truck – if it stumbles or will not start, try to prime the system again and retry
