JK Jeep Wrangler Oil Change (2011 – 2014)
A JK Jeep Wrangler oil change costs less if you do it your self, no need to pay for the dealer to do it. Follow your service schedule to stay on top of maintenance.
Tools Needed:
- 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
- Oil filter wrench
- Oil drain pan with at least 5 quart capacity
- Funnel
- Clean rag

- 6 quarts 5W20 or 5W30 engine oil depending on your specific jeep. Check your oil filter cap if you are unsure
- 2011 – 2014 use oil filter MOPAR 4105409AC – Verify that your jeep uses a standard style oil filter associated with this part number. Jeep switched to a cartridge style filter in 2014.
JK Jeep Wrangler Oil Change Procedure:
- Warm engine to operating temp
- Check engine oil on dipstick to verify no issues
- Remove oil pan drain plug and let oil drain into pan using the 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
- Remove oil filter
- Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mating surfaces
- Lubricate oil filter o ring and install
- Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
- Fill with 5.5 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Check engine oil & top off if necessary
- Reset the maintenance reminder
