Mazda CX3 Oil Change (2016+)

Tools Needed:
- 17mm socket and ratchet or wrench
- Flat head and Phillips head screw driver
- Oil filter pliers
- Funnel
- Oil Drain pan with at least 5 quart capacity
- A clean rag or paper towel
- Jack and jack stands or vehicle ramps

- 5 quarts – 0W20 Engine oil (4.4 quart capacity listed in the manual but it took all 5 quarts in my experience)
- Oil FIlter – Fram PH6607 or equivalent filter
Mazda CX3 Oil Change Procedure:
- Warm engine to operating temp
- Check engine oil level on dipstick to verify no prior issues
- Raise front end of vehicle using by driving onto the ramps or jacking it up and setting on jack stands
- Take down the large, rear most skid plate access panel (pictured below) using the Phillips and flat head screw drivers (3 Phillips head screws and 2 clips – remove clips by popping center out with the flat head screw driver)
- Remove engine oil drain plug using the 17mm wrench and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
- Remove oil filter using the oil filter pliers (loosen filter and left oil drain from filter before taking down to avoid making a mess)
- Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
- Lubricate new oil filter O ring with fresh oil and install
- Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
- Fill engine with 4.4 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Reinstall skid plate access panel
- Lower front end by backing off ramps or lowering off jack stands
- When front end is on level ground, check engine oil level & top off if necessary
Reset the maintenance required light: Hold the trip reset button with the vehicle off, cycling the ignition to the on position by pressing the ignition button with you foot not on the brake pedal. Be sure not to turn the ignition on. Keep pressing the trip reset button for an additional 5 seconds and the maintenance light should go out.
This applies for vehicles equipped with a push button ignition.
