Hyundai Elantra Oil Change – 2017+ 2.0L
Perform your own Hyundai Elantra oil change and you can be sure it was done right. Staying on top of routine maintenance is the best thing you can do for your vehicle. The oil change interval ranges from every 3750 miles when driven under severe conditions to 7500 miles under normal conditions when full synthetic oil is used. This article is specific to the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 model year Hyundai Elantra when equipped with the common 2.0L engine. Tools Needed:
- 17mm wrench or socket and ratchet for the engine oil drain plug
- Filter wrench (If it is too tight to remove by hand)
- Oil fill funnel
- Drain pan with at least 5 qt capacity
- Ramps or a jack with jack stands
- Clean rag

- 5W20 Engine Oil – 4.2 qt capacity
- Engine oil filter – Wix 51334 or equivalent
Hyundai Elantra Oil Change Procedure:
- Warm the engine up to operating temp
- Check engine oil level and condition on dipstick to verify no prior issues
- Raise front end by driving on to ramps or by jacking the front end up with a jack and setting on jack stands
- This vehicle has a skid plate below the engine but it has cut outs to remove the oil filter and drain plug. The skid plate does not have to be removed
- Loosen the oil pan drain plug using the 17mm wrench (or socket and ratchet) and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
- Remove oil filter using the oil filter wrench
- Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
- Lubricate new oil filter O ring and install
- Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
- Fill engine with 4.0 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Lower the front end from the ramps or jack stands
- Check engine oil level with the car level & top off if necessary
