2.7L Toyota Tacoma Oil Change (2016+)
A 2016+ 2TR 2.7L Toyota Tacoma oil change is a simple way to save money and stay on top of your car’s scheduled service intervals. This article is specific to the 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 Toyota Tacoma when equipped with the 2.7L engine. Follow this guide for an oil change on a 3.5L equipped Tacoma.
Tools Needed:
- 14mm wrench or socket
- Oil filter wrench or removal tool
- Funnel for fresh engine oil
- Engine Oil Drain pan with at least 7 qt capacity
- Clean rag

2.7L Toyota Tacoma Oil Change Procedure:
- Park truck on level surface
- Warm truck to operating temp
- Check engine oil level and condition on dipstick to verify no prior issues
- Remove oil pan drain plug using the 14mm wrench (or socket and ratchet) and let the engine oil drain into the drain pan
- Remove oil filter using the oil filter wrench
- Clean oil drain plug and oil filter mounting surfaces
- Fill oil filter with some of the new engine oil
- Lubricate oil filter o ring
- Install engine oil filter to block
- Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug using 14mm wrench (or socket and ratchet)
- Fill engine with 6 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate and build oil pressure(Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Check engine oil level & top off if necessary
- Reset the maintenance required light
