JK Jeep Wrangler Oil Change (2014 – 2018)
A JK 3.6L Jeep Wrangler oil change costs less if you do it your self, no need to pay for the dealer to do it. Follow your service schedule to stay on top of maintenance.
Tools Needed:
- 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
- 24mm or 15/16″ socket
- Ratchet with a minimum of 6″ extension for above socket
- O ring pick
- Oil drain pan with at least 5 quart capacity
- Oil fill funnel
- Clean rag

- 6 quarts 5W20 or 5W30 engine oil – check your oil cap if you are unsure
- Oil filter Mopar 68191349AC – Jeep switched to a cartridge style oil filter in 2014, verify that your jeep is equipped with this style
JK 3.6L Jeep Wrangler Oil Change Procedure:
- Warm engine to operating temp
- Check engine oil on dipstick to verify no issues
- Remove engine top cover
- Loosen engine oil drain plug and let oil drain into pan using the 13mm or 1/2″ socket or wrench
- Remove oil filter using the 24mm or 15/16″ socket, extension and ratchet
- With the oil filter cap removed, remove and replace housing o ring and filter
- Reinstall oil filter with housing
- Reinstall and tighten oil drain plug
- Fill with 5 quarts of engine oil with oil fill funnel and reinstall oil fill cap
- Start engine to let oil circulate (Check for any leaks or abnormalities while running) and shut engine back down
- Check engine oil & top off if necessary
- Reinstall engine top cover
- Reset your maintenance reminder
